Summary

“Who is In Your Church Balcony?”
by Rev. Chase Peeples
Hebrews 11:29-12:1
August 14, 2016, Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost

In the Letter to the Hebrews, there’s an image of a “great cloud of witnesses” made up of heroes of faith from the past watching the recipients of the letter run their part of the spiritual relay race.  One preacher described it as a “spiritual church balcony” full of the people who have influenced the faith journeys of today’s Christians.  In this sermon, Rev. Peeples shares the people who have influenced him on his own faith journey–people who are present in his “church balcony.”  The audio also contains who various members of the congregation described as having influenced their journeys.

“Each of us, famous or infamous, is a role model for somebody, and if we aren’t, we should behave as though we are — cheerful, kind, loving, courteous. Because you can be sure someone is watching and taking deliberate and diligent notes.”
